FAQ

Q: IS IT LEGAL?
A: YES! We are an adhesive tape product.

See more on the exact definitions from each of the various Rulebooks....

Q: I thought hockey sticks needed protection on the bottom of the blade?
A: We're finding that the harder bottom edge of today's new hi-tech composite sticks withstands more abuse. We're also finding the damage and deterioration to the wooden stick's bottom edge when covered with traditional cloth hockey tape may occur from the cloth tape itself. It holds water/moisture against the blade and actually leads to a softening of the manufacturer's blade lacquers. Damage to the heel of the wooden blade usually starts with this softening, leading to moisture penetration into the wood itself. Swelling and ultimately a fairly rapid blade failure can occur after this. Just wipe your wood blade dry after use with your skate towel, and see for yourself! Do your own testing...maybe we can disprove this myth together. This is not yet a definitive claim by us, but we're surprised and encouraged by lifespan reports from many users of wooden one and two piece sticks so far. Photos and link to be added here soon, to support this finding.

Q: What about protection for the top edge of the composite stick blade?
A: Yes, we agree the top edge and "leading toe edge" of the composite blade is harder, more brittle and chips quite easily. Our solution is to use our Get-A-Grip to cover this area and prevent this from occurring. We've done a lot of testing here and we're finding this to be an excellent solution to this problem. It does need replacement more frequently than BladeTape - but it works and saves those $250 sticks from that "ugly" damage better than traditional tape!

Q: How hard is BladeTape to replace when it's time...?
A: Unlike traditional cloth tape, BladeTape peels off with little or no residue. Just peel it off, rub off any remaining adhesive and reapply a new one!

Q: I picked my BladeTape up at the rink's pro shop...can I quickly install it just before my game in the dressing room?
A: For best results, we recommend installing BladeTape at room temperature (both your blade and the BladeTape). A better lifespan is achieved after giving it some time to set... but many successful installs have happened in the dressing room. It's hard to resist not installing BladeTape for your first time! If you must..Go for it! Keep warm hands pressed on it a little longer if you can and realize that your full adhesion has been compromised a bit.

Q: What do you do if the tape becomes damaged? Replace the whole tape?
A: If BladeTape becomes cut or damaged, just warm the blade slightly by hand, eliminate any moisture from the area and press the damaged area back down onto the blade. The product is very durable and has the ability to be repaired this easily - this is one of the benefits of using BladeTape! Minor knicks and cuts do not adversely affect performance - try that with your cloth hockey tape!

Q: How long will my BladeTape last me?
A: Our on-ice live game testing and feedback from many players at all different ages and skill levels shows us that the average player can achieve 10-12 on ice sessions from one pair of Bladetape. Results will vary - but we're confident that you will achieve this performance standard.
Many players receive much longer performance stats.

Q: What do you do if only the one side becomes damaged? Replace both tape faces?
A: NO. Go ahead and replace your Bladetape one face at a time (if you like) and as the wear and tear dictates. WE DO HOWEVER ONLY SELL BLADETAPE IN PAIRS DUE TO OUR MANUFACTURING PROCESSES.

Q: Can I install BladeTape on a lower quality painted hockey blade?
A: Yes-but you must remove the lower quality lacquer and paint job first. We are now aware of 2 failures in the thousands of BladeTape's currently in use nationwide. Both have resulted due to a complete "debond" of this finished lacquer coat on the blade itself-not our premium quality backing tape releasing at all. This is evidenced by the "skin" of lacquer stuck to our BladeTape. How you say? We rely on a good bond to the blade. If the lacquer is applied too thinly (to save costs and offer the blade or stick at a cheaper price point), it cannot provide enough frictional strength-which our product relies upon completely, for a good secure bond to the underlying blade. YOU MUST USE SANDPAPER AND ROUGHEN THE LOWER QUALITY BLADES TO REMOVE THIS THIN SURFACE COATING, ALLOWING YOUR BLADETAPE TO PROPERLY BOND WITH THE BLADE ITSELF. Then you're good to go! This is not an issue on higher quality blades or sticks at all-we have far too many happy users with lots of extended use on their BladeTape-well beyond our life cycle expectancy!

Q: I've seen this product before - isn't it just for ball hockey?
A: NO. BladeTape is an ice hockey product. It can work as well for ball hockey and in-line hockey, but it's unique patented formulation allows it to work in colder temperatures remaining both flexible and durable while offering many performance improvements and ease of use.
